Fredericksburg, Texas ~ Staying in Switzerland

My time in Fredericksburg started with a big snafu on my part.  I had booked the wrong weekend!  So, upon my arrival at Baron’s Creek Resort, I walked up to the “self check-in” box where there was to be an envelope with my name on it, including my key and instructions but, no envelope!  I panicked for a few minutes then called the number on my confirmation.  I was greeted by Daniel, the owner, who said, “we’ll figure it out and I’ll be up to the Club in 5 minutes”.  Heavy sigh!  When he got to me he said, “this never happens, but the cabin you booked happens to be available for you for the dates you actually need”.  I was both relieved and shocked knowing that this is a VERY popular destination.  To say that Daniel won my heart at that moment is an understatement, even before I got to my cabin. (Below: Cabin Details)

Daniel lead me to my cabin and took me in.  It was very hard to hide my enthusiasm because it was beautiful!  Daniel is a Swiss national who created his version of Swiss heaven in Fredericksburg.  Having been to Switzerland many times myself, I can spot a faux impersonation, and this place is the real deal!  There were moments I forgot that I was actually in Texas.  The details in the cabins require focus.  The woodwork, the décor, the wine bottles that create a “window”, the message in a bottle in the wall, I could go on but suffice it to say, worth every dollar spent.  The wine produced at Baron’s is worth trying as well. (Below: Outside the Davos)

If you are lucky enough to get in over the weekend you will enjoy live music at the club Thursday through Saturday night, even during “the rona”.  I highly recommend staying here.  It’s not just a cabin, it’s an international experience within the borders of the USA. (Below: Inside the Davos)

Next up, the Enchanted Rock and downtown Fredericksburg! Previous post on wine country might be worth a read as well.
